He was born Feb. 23, 1929, in Rapid City, SD, a son of the late William and Bessie Rohrig Ehrler.
Robert was a retired 2nd Class Petty Officer from the U.S. Navy serving in the Korean War. He was a member of the El Hasa Shriner for many years and a high school graduate. He was a loving father and grandfather and will be sorely missed.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Ella Mae Raga; and two brothers, Eugene and Bill Ehrler.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Hall Ehrler, whom he married May 9, 1969, in Pike County, OH; one daughter, Betty (Allen) Dingess of Lucasville; two sons, Lilburn (Tawnya) Ehrler of Rubyville, and Thomas L. Ehrler and fiancee Yores Mae Putor of Lansing, MI; five grandchildren, Brandon, Chanelle, Andrea, Sierra, and Shyann; one sister, Deelda “Tiny” Barton of Rapid City, SD; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, at Pine Grove United Baptist Church, with Arvil Murray Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Big Run Cemetery, where military graveside rites will be performed by the William A. Baker and the James Irwin Posts of the American Legion. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville and for one hour before the funeral at the church.
