Jack was born in Fullerton, Ky., on June 21, 1937. He was one of 12 children born to the late James C. and Marie (Pennington) Skidmore Sr. He was employed with Batelle Memorial Institute where he was a research scientist in Metalurgical Engineering. He was a U.S Navy veteran. Jackson was a fitness fanatic and a runner.
Surviving are Wanda Skidmore; their two sons, Dr. Grant (Donna) Skidmore of Virginia Beach, and Dr. Mark (Angela) Skidmore of Memphis, TN; four grandchildren, Ashley, Alexander, Alaina and Anna; two brothers, James C. (Norma Jean) Skidmore Jr. of Tiffin, OH, and William (Kathy) Skidmore of IN; three sisters, Betty (Carl) Carter and Suzanne (Jim) James of South Shore, Ky., Linda (Roy) Lawson of Minford, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Glenn, Lindsey and Michael Skidmore; three sisters, Joan Mae Skidmore, Oleata (Skidmore) Brown and Nannie Louise (Skidmore) Bailey.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel with Rev. C. Jason officiating. The family received friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service, followed by burial at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
Navy honors were accorded at the gravesite.
