Mr. Carpenter was born March 25, 1945, in Grayson, KY, a son of James Ercle Carpenter of Wurtland, KY, and the late Donna Madene Stephens Carpenter, who passed away June 5, 2010.
He was a retired branch manager of Peoples Bank in Greenup, KY. He was a member of the Wurtland Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and clerk/treasurer. He also was a member of the South Shore Rotary Club, former trustee and treasurer of the Greenup County Public Library, and member of the Greenup County Extension Service Board, helped organize the Greenup County Student Bank, and was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Greenup Masonic Lodge F&AM No.89.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Stephanie Carpenter; and one sister, Donna Carpenter.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife of 44 years, Diane McBrayer Carpenter of Lloyd; one son, Stephen (Lori) Carpenter of Wheelersburg, OH; one brother, Mike (Patty) Carpenter of Wurtland; and two grandchildren, Kinsey Carpenter and Cameron Carpenter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Wurtland Missionary Baptist Church, by Pastor Butch Kiger and the Rev. Bill Vallance. Burial will be in Brick Union Cemetery in Lloyd. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup and one hour before service Saturday at the church.
