Relay event to be in Pike County

The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life in Pike County will take place from 6 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday at the Pike County Fairgrounds in Piketon. All proceeds go to research through the American Cancer Society.

Pike County Relay Idol will be Friday evening and $375 in prize money will be awarded. For more information, call (740) 708-0217 for entry information.

Other events include a cake eating contest, best dressed disco couple, live bands, martial arts demonstration, baby pageant and a celebrity dunk tank.

Community-wide yard sale in New Boston

New Boston Mayor Jim Warren has announced a community-wide yard sale will take place in the village of New Boston from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. No permits are required, and food vendors are welcome.

City sanitation announces new regulations

Effective Tuesday, the following regulations will be instituted by the Portsmouth City Sanitation Department, in regards to daily trash pickup, according to Bill Beaumont, service director.

• Trash is to be put out no later than 6:30 a.m. on your designated pick-up day.

• Trash is to be in containers issued to you by the city sanitation department.

• You will be allowed three additional bags of garbage along with your city-issued trash cans.

• Garbage must be in bags. Garbage in boxes will not be picked up during the normal pick-up schedule.

• If you have additional trash, you will need to schedule a bulk pick-up by calling the city service department at (740) 354-7766.
