Robert Gene Collier, 31, of 99 Parsons Road, Minford faces two counts of kidnapping, criminal trespassing and violation of a protection order or consent agreement.
The Scioto County Sheriff’s office was dispatched to the West Side IGA to meet with Melissa Vassar, Monday at around 4:57 p.m.
Vassar reportedly told deputies that her ex-boyfriend had let her go out to buy groceries, but was holding her 7-year-old son at her apartment at 11 Clayton Court, Apartment 300 A, in West Portsmouth.
Deputies said they were told Collier kicked in the door on May 5, at about 1:05 a.m. and that he was wearing a mask and carrying a baseball bat, and would not let her leave without him, advising her, according to what she told deputies, that he would kill her.
In his report, Sgt. Dan Malone said the woman told him the first day Collier would not let her son go to school, but let him go the second day.
She also reportedly advised deputies that Collier beat her up and kept her there until she healed.
She said he took them away to another location and returned to her residence on May 9.
On May 10, Vassar said he told her she could go to the store to buy groceries and told her if she told anyone he would kill her, and he kept her son as a hostage at the apartment.
She reportedly contacted the authorities who arrested Collier on a bench warrant from Portsmouth Municipal Court on a temporary protection order violation.
