Washington-Nile accepts names for preschool

On April 12, Washington-Nile Local School District will begin accepting the names and general interest information from families of 3-and 4-year olds interested in preschool. Resident families are asked to contact Portsmouth West Elementary School by May 7 or return the form sent home with all Portsmouth West Elementary School students.

The full-day preschool is located at Portsmouth West Elementary School, 15332A U.S. 52, West Portsmouth. Transportation is provided from homes to and from school by school buses. Families may choose to transport their children if they prefer. The schedule will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday with breakfast, lunch and snacks (free and reduced prices for qualifying families).

All children must be potty trained and 3- or 4-years-old by Sept. 30, 2010.

New Boston sets conferences

Stanton Primary, Oak Intermediate and Glenwood High School in New Boston will be holding Parent/Teacher Conferences on Thursday.

Teachers at Stanton Primary will be available from 3:15 to 8:15 p.m. for conferences; Oak Intermediate teachers will be available from 2:45 to 7:45 p.m. for conferences. Glenwood High School teachers will be available from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m. for conferences.

West announces K registration

Portsmouth West Elementary will have registration for children entering kindergarten at the school, 15332A U.S. 52, West Portsmouth. Registration will be conducted from noon to 6 p.m. April 13 and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 14.

Children entering kindergarten next August must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 30.

Parents or guardians must present the following:

• Copy of the original birth certificate (not the hospital certificate);

• Social Security card;

• Complete immunization (shot) record;

• Insurance or Medicaid card;

• Custodial documentation, if applicable; and

• Proof of residence.

Kindergarten teachers will be available at all sessions to answer questions.

The child must be present at the time of registration for te following screenings: speech, vision and hearing. Allow up to two hours for the registration and screenings to be completed.

The Ohio University immunization program will be providing free immunizations for all children from birth through 19 years of age at Portsmouth West Elementary from noon to 6 p.m. April 13 and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 14.

Dogwood Ridge closes Wednesday

Dogwood Ridge Road, County Road 52, will be closed from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. The location of the closure will be at the 3.35 mile marker, 235 feet from Ohio 140, and 0.18 mile from Hartley Road. County crews will be installing a concrete pipe.
