Pancake breakfast is April 3

William A. Baker Post American Legion of Lucasville will have an all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. April 3 at the Legion Cabin, West Street, Lucasville. Cost will be $4. To-go plates will be available.

The proceeds help Legion members give scholarships, send boys to Boys State and donation to Gifts For Yanks, Special Olympics and needy families for Christmas. Also it will help support of the Veterans Programs in schools/churches and performing military funerals. 

Horse park schedules volunteer training

The Ohio University Southern Ohio Horse Park in Franklin Furnace is seeking volunteers for spring or fall to assist the Center for Therapeutic Riding. Experience is not necessary and all volunteers will be trained during the training session at 5 p.m. April 13 at the Ohio Horse Park in Franklin Furnace.

People who are interested in helping teach safe and basic equestrian lessons to children and adults with emotional, social, behavioral, mental and physical disorders are encouraged to register for the upcoming training session. Volunteers are needed to lead, tack and groom horses and interact positively with children and adults. To be a part of the volunteer team, contact Kelly Hall at or calling (740) 354-9347.

Veterans Helping Veterans accepts donations

Those wishing to make a donation to Veterans Helping Veterans and Others may do so now through its Web site at www.veteranshelping.org. Donations goes directly to the US Bank where it is deposited into the organization’s account. Anyone who becomes a monthly sponsor of $10 or more will receive a certificate to display at home or the office. According to Cathy Messer, store manger, volunteers accept furniture, clothing, nicknacks and items to sell in the thrift store, 1525 Harrisonville Ave. Those who donate items can receive a receipt for tax purposes.

The group has three sets of crutches, two walkers with wheels, six walkers without wheels, two potty chairs, two manual hospital beds, one electric hospital bed and 11 canes. Any veteran in need of help with any of these items can stop by the thrift store or call (740) 456-4009. The beds will be delivered locally free of charge. Veterans must have proof of need, picture identification, proof of residence and a copy of their DD214.

Anyone who has any handicap equipment that can be donated to help veterans, call the thrift store a call.
