Born Jan. 29, 1922, in Scioto County, he was the son of the late James C. and Effie Mae Conkel Arthur. He was a former employee of N&W Railroad, retired from New Boston Coke Corporation with 26 years of service where he was a Stationary Engineer and attended Valley Chapel Church. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran and received the American Theatre Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and WWII Victory Medal.
He is survived by two sons, Bob Arthur and Gary (Rita) Arthur, all of Minford; three grandchildren, James Arthur, Lori (James) Devins and Daniel Arthur; and one brother, Paul Arthur of Portsmouth.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth O. Brigner Arthur; and two sisters, Ruth Ramsey and Naomi Wooten.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 21, 2010, at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford, with Bernie Twinam officiating. Burial will be at Bennett Cemetery in Minford. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday and one hour before the service on Sunday. Military graveside rites will be conducted by James Irwin Post No. 622 American Legion and William A. Baker Post No. 363.
