The Southern Ohio Conference released it's girls and boys All-Stars as well coach and player of the year awards on Monday, highlighting a season of interesting story lines.

Player of the Year awards for boys went to the SOC I's Doug McVey of Eastern and Kyle Ondera of Oak Hill.

The girls awards went to New Boston's Missy Buckley in the SOC I and South Webster's Kayla Cook in the SOC II.

Of that group, all but Cook were members of respective conference championship teams.

McVey averaged 11 points per game while leading the Eagles to an SOC I championship and perfect conference season.

Ondera, who led the Oaks to an undefeated regular season was also named Associated Press Division III co-Player of the Year.

Buckley led New Boston to it's fourth-straight SOC I championship with an 18.5 points per game average a year after the Lady Tigers lost the previous SOC I Player of the Year to graduation.

Cook led South Webster to a regional semifinal four the fourth-straight season and will be moving on to play her college basketball at the University of Cincinnati next season.

Coach of the Year honors went to the league champs in the boys divisions but were split in girls.

Oak Hill's Norm Persin took the SOC II Coach of the Year honors and Eastern Pike's P.J. Fitch did the same in the SOC I. Both coaches led their teams to undefeated conference records and Fitch was also named the District 14 Coach of the Year.

On the girls end New Boston's John Estep was named co-Coach of the Year with Eastern Pike's Rob Day.

Estep led New Boston to his third SOC I championship and his team's fourth in a row while Day led the Lady Eagles to a second-place finish — just one game behind New Boston in the standings.

The SOC II girls award went to West's Greg Maynard. Maynard led West to a 10-win season and a sectional championship just one year after the Lady Senators finished 2-19.
