He was born on June 12, 1925, to the late Chester Nelson and Chloia Martin Ward. On Jan. 20, 1951, he was united in marriage to Pauline Snyder, who survives. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Ward and James Roger Ward. Richard was a mail carrier, a member of the American Legion Post 142, and was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Mound Cemetery in Piketon, Ohio, and calling hours will not be observed. Arrangements are under the direction of Botkin Funeral Home in Waverly, Ohio.
