Oak Hill earns SOC share

The Oaks clinched at least a share of the SOC II trophy with a 42-33 home win over Wheelersburg on Friday.

Kyle Ondera had a game-high 18 points in the low-scoring contest. Jesse Slone added nine points in the win.

Wheelersburg was led by Andy Stegman's 17 points and Tyler Lang had eight points.

Northwest 48, Waverly 47

A day after ending up on the losing side of a double-overtime nail-biter in Minford, the Mohawks played another game down to the wire.

Hank Leslie scored 18 points with nine rebounds and Kreig Crabtree hit four 3-pointers en route to scoring 12 points in the win. Kenny Crabtree scored eight points with 12 rebounds in the contest.

For the Tigers, Jake Kretzer scored 21 points and Sam JohnsTon scored 12.

"It was a good effort tonight..," Northwest coach Rick Scarberry said. "We executed offensively and the kids scrapped hard."

The Mohawks will face on Oak Hill Tuesday in what may be their final regular season contest. Northwest has a pair of games that could still be made up pending how the Mohawks and their opponents fair in the tournament.

In a marathon contest the Tartans put up their largest scoring output of the year in a home win over the Tigers on Friday.

Senior Jon Garrett finished with a game-high 29 points to go with six assists while Corey Haywood turned in a double-double of 13 points and 11 boards.

East’s Jordan Garrett had 15 points and six assists as Zach Rawlins had 12 points, five steals and seven rebounds.

Justin Crager added 11 points and nine rebounds in the SOC I win.

New Boston's Tyler Messer led his team with 21 points while Shane Buckley had 10 points.

East hosts Western tonight.

Clay 66, Notre Dame 60

A balanced offensive attack from the Panthers led to their ninth SOC I victory on Friday night when they defeated Notre Dame in Portsmouth.

Nathan Burchett had 14 points and Jon Valentine added 12 while Cody Bussler and Cody Delotell each finished with 10 points.

"We played well within the body of the game," Clay coach Jack Trainer said.

Notre Dame was led by Kevin Lewis' seven 3-pointers for a game-high 21 points. Jacob Milani added 12 points in the loss.

Clay goes to South Webster tonight for its final regular season game. On Tuesday the Panthers go to Valley High School to begin sectional tournament play against Manchester.

Titans’ coach Matt Mader credited the play of his seniors, Alex Glockner, Jeffrey Emnett and Greg July, for being the backbone of the team this season.

On Wednesday night the Panthers defeated the East Tartans 85-74 as Clay shot 46 percent and made 10 from behind the arc.

Minford 61, West 45

A 22-11 first quarter and strong second half helped the Falcons outlast the Senators in Friday night's SOC contest at Portsmouth West High School.

Minford's Brett Taylor and Mark Slone each put up 14 points. Cory McKnight added 10 points in the Falcons' win.

Cody Groves led West with 11 points. Zach Bolton added 10 points and Adam Bricker had six points and six rebounds.

This was the final home game for five Senators — Tyler Austin, Cody Adkins, Bradley Garrett, Garrett Arthur and Groves.

Sectional tournament play begins for both Minford and West on Tuesday at Jackson High School. The Falcons take on Coal Grove at 6:15 p.m. and the Senators tip off with South Point at 8 p.m.

Symmes Valley outscored Western in three of four quarters to defeat the Indians on Friday in Latham.

Michael Ferris scored 18 points to lead all scorers and Kris Tibbs added 13 points for Symmes Valley.

Western was led by Kory Bakenhaster's 14 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks. Stefan Stojanovic scored eight points with seven steals.

Western plays at East tonight.
