Charles Robert Tackett, 64, of Lucasville, died Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at Southern Ohio Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 11, 1945, in Lucasville, a son of the late William Clayton and Minnie Davis Tackett.

Charley was a retired caretaker of the Scioto County Fairgrounds, a former Empire Detroit Steel employee, a U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran, and a 1964 Valley High School graduate. Charley was an avid youth sports coach, coaching Little League Baseball, Biddy Basketball, and Junior High Basketball in Lucasville for many years.

Charley is survived by his wife, Betty Jean King Tackett, whom he married June 1, 1969, in Grahn, Ky.; two sons, Timothy (Danette) Tackett and Bryan Carl Tackett, both of Lucasville; one brother, Carl (Sandy) Tackett of Lucasville; one sister, Ruth (Dean) Miller of Minford; one grandson on the way; many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Milton and Billy Tackett.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, at the McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville, with Joey Nelson, Calvin Ray Evans Jr., and Brian Baer officiating. Burial will follow in Harger Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be performed by the William A. Baker and the James Irwin Posts of the American Legion. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
