Born Aug. 8, 1944, in Portsmouth, he was a son of the late Edmund George and Virginia Martha Swavel George. Bill was both a maintenance swimming pool and spas worker and a cook in restaurants.
Preceding him in death were his mother, Virginia Swavel George on Feb. 19, 1997; his father, Edmund Thomas George on Sept 21, 1993; a brother, Ronald George; and a sister, Beverly George.
Surviving are brothers, John (Zona) George of Dayton, Larry (Wilma) George and James (Julia) George, all of Portsmouth; and sisters, Wanda (Gary) Stephenson of New Boston and Teresa (John) Diddle of Portsmouth.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m. on Friday at the Brant Funeral Home in Portsmouth, with Brother Lewis Maynard officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Burial Park. The family will receive friends at Brant’s in Portsmouth after 11 a.m. on Friday.
