Design review board rescheduled meeting

Because of the Martin Luther King holiday, the Portsmouth Design Review Board will have its monthly meeting in the city engineering conference room located on the second floor of City Hall at 11 a.m. Jan. 25 instead of its regularly scheduled meeting on Jan. 18. The meeting is open to the public. Submission deadline for applications to be reviewed at the Feb. 15 meeting is Feb. 1, 2010. For more information, call city engineering office at (740) 354-7557.

Business tax workshop is Jan. 28

The Small Business Tax Workshop is a one-day workshop designed to help small businesses in southern Ohio learn about the different Business Tax Requirements. Attendees will learn about the various types of business structures and the advantages and disadvantages of each as it relates to business taxes. In addition, participants will learn about Ohio sales tax, personal property tax, and state tax withholding. 

The workshop is being hosted by the OSU South Centers Business Development Network, and sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service and the Ohio Department of Taxation. The Small Business Tax Workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 28 at Endeavor Center at The Ohio State University South Centers, 1862 Shyville Road, Piketon. While the workshop is free, continental breakfast and lunch will be available for $15. Space is limited, so register in advance.

Relay For Life kickoff rescheduled

The 2010 edition of Relay For Life kickoff has been rescheduled to take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28 at the SOMC Cancer Center on Kinney’s Lane, Portsmouth.
