The first round of the annual Pike County Holiday Classic saw Piketon defeat Eastern 77-53 while Waverly beat Western 66-33 on Monday night at Waverly High School.
In the first game of the Classic the Redsteaks started strong with a 36-17 lead by the half against previously unbeaten Eastern. Piketon's James Lewis put up a double-double with 22 points and 10 boards.
Teammate Evan Legg had an all-around performance of 13 points, eight assists and five steals. While Jared Vulgamore totaled 17 points and Keenan Brush grabbed 19 rebounds in the win.
Waverly won the night cap over Western by holding the Indians to no more than nine points in any quarter.
Tiger Harrison Martin led all scorers with 22 while Jake Kretzer put up 15 of his own in the win.
"I can't be disappointed with a win. We really came out to set the pace tonight," Waverly coach Travis Robertson said. "Tomorrow night we are going to need to come out with more focus and defensive intensity in the championship game."
Eastern will take on Western tonight at 6:00 for the consolation game with the championship game of Piketon versus Waverly to follow.
