According to New Boston Police Capt. Steve Goins, someone broke the window facing Vine Street and entered the bank building between 2 and 4 a.m. Thursday morning. The break-in was later discovered by an employee opening the bank Thursday morning. Goins said officers tested the bank alarm and found it working properly, and are not sure why it did not sound during the break-in.
The suspect reportedly stole money from the teller drawers, but did not gain access to the bank vault. Goins said the suspect did get away with a large number of gold dollar coins.
“We have several leads and possible suspects we’re going to be following up on,” Goins said.
A spokesperson for Desco did not return calls Thursday, and no further information was available at press time.
The investigation continues by New Boston Police, with assistance by the Bureau of Criminal Investigations. Goins asks anyone with information on this robbery, or if anyone notices someone spending an unusual amount of new gold dollar coins, please contact the New Boston Police Department at (740) 456-4109. All calls, he said, can remain anonymous.
