Paula Ruth Crawford, 57, of Twin Valley, passed away at Southern Ohio Medical Center on Nov. 7, 2009, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Portsmouth, Paula was the daughter of the late Paul and Jean Lacy.

She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Michael Crawford; granddaughter, Sydney Micah; brothers, Terry (Judy) Lacy, Pat (Pat) Lacy, Steve (Gail) Lacy, and Mark Lacy, all of Portsmouth, Bryan (Vicky) Lacy of Mississippi, and Kim Lacy of Alabama; sisters, Gail (Dan) Davis of Lucasville, Cathy Binion of Portsmouth, Elaine (Martin) Baker of Mississippi and Eve (Rene) Baldrich of Delaware; sisters-in-law, Cathy Crawford of France and Lori (Brian) Reed; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Kelly Ann; a sister, Dale; a brother, Reed; and by her in-laws, Carl and Georgie Crawford.

Paula was a graduate of Notre Dame High School and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Ohio University. Paula was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother to Sydney. She was an avid reader, loved flowers, and a dedicated teacher. She was employed by the Portsmout h City School System and took pride in her years as an elementary school teacher and would’ve continued if not for her illness. She was always delighted when prior students would approach her in public and thank her or comment on her being their teacher. She took pride in shaping the lives of children. Paula never met a stranger and could talk to anyone on any subject. She also enjoyed her two bulldogs, Annabelle and Fatboy. She was a loyal friend and will be sorely missed.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Church of Christ in Christian Union in New Boston, where Paula recently attended, with the Rev. Gary Heimbach officiating. Arrangements under the direction of Melcher Funeral Home in Portsmouth.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
