A Vanceburg woman is facing charges of criminal abuse involving a child younger than 12 after being accused of using duct tape to bind a child with special needs.

The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Tuesday, they arrested Roberta Hobbs, 54, after receiving a call from Social Services.

Hobbs is accused of using duct tape to bind a child with special needs for long periods of time, while living in deplorable conditions.

Hobbs is charged with criminal abuse of the first degree involving a child under the age of 12.

Lewis said Social Services removed the child along with two other children from the Hobbs home.

Further charges are pending upon the completion of the investigation by Deputy Gary Sparks.

FRANK LEWIS may be reached at (740) 353-3101, ext. 232.

to duck tape in child is wrong but being the parent of a special needs person. There is no reason in the world that a child with special needs should every be duct tape let alone every mistreated or abused in anyway that is not right and this woman should never be given a chance to take care of this child again.

sounds to me like this woman needs to be arrested and spend time in jail if that's the way she's gonna treat a 12 year old, with special needs at that. i hope this woman is prosecuted to the fullest extent, and should never be allowed to take care of children ever again.
