Area players do well at Sectional Tennis

All the area schools with girls tennis teams competed in the Division II Sectional Tournament on Tuesday and several will be coming back toady.

The singles’ tournament was played at Mound Park while the doubles played at Shawnee State University’s new Daehler Tennis Center.

Of the eight singles players returning, three are from Portsmouth. The Lady Trojans will return Ashleigh Link, Leda Daehler and Caroline Khoury.

Also returning in singles will be the tournament's No. 1 seed, Courtney Pierron of Wheelersburg, Notre Dame's Rachel Appleton and Waverly's Lauren Hoffman.

In doubles, Portsmouth's Kalyn Purdy and Crystal Carpenter and Valley's team of Michelle Mains and Alexa Pratt qualified for districts and will play today for seeding.

Both Portsmouth and Valley's doubles teams will face opponents from Miami Trace.

Play is scheduled to begin today at Mound Park at 9 a.m.
