Counseling Center hosts workshop

The Counseling Center Inc. will host a workshop from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Shawnee Lodge and Resort, 4404 B Ohio 125, West Portsmouth. The workshop will feature Normand Cartier who has become famous for having his life taped in the documentary, “Lost in Woonsocket.” Normand, who was homeless, was discovered by the TV series, “Lost in America.” Normand has been in recovery from drugs and alcohol for over three years, and shares his powerful story by traveling the country.

There will be CEUs available for professional counselors, social workers, chemical dependency counselors and prevention professionals.

A $50 registration fee, will includes CEUs, continental breakfast and lunch.

Garbage pickup is delayed

Garbage pickup will be delayed the week of Labor Day, Sept. 7, according to the Portsmouth Department of Public Service.

Monday, Sept. 7, will be picked up on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Tuesday, Sept. 8, will be picked up on Wednesday, Sept. 9.

Wednesday, Sept. 9, will be picked up on Thursday, Sept. 10.

Thursday, Sept. 10, will be picked up on Friday, Sept. 11.

Friday, Sept. 11, will be picked up on Saturday, Sept. 12.

Elder law seminar is offered

The United Scioto Senior Activities Inc., Scioto County Multipurpose Senior Citizens Center, 117 Market St., will host a free seminar on “Elder Law” issues. Attorneys Trey Peterson and John Haas will share information on how to protect your family’s assets from long tern care and much more valuable information pertaining to issues facing older adults daily.

The seminar will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the center. Refreshments will be provided. The public is encouraged to attend.

Mosquito spraying dates are set

• Ohio Pest Control Inc. in conjunction with the Scioto County Commissioners will conduct mosquito spraying from 11 p.m. to midnight Wednesday at Earl Thomas Conley Riverside Park, U.S. 52, West Portsmouth. If inclement weather prevents the spraying, then spraying will be done Sept. 16 at the same time.

• Ohio Pest Control Inc. in conjunction with the Rush Township trustees will conduct mosquito spraying from 8 to 11 p.m. Wednesday. If inclement weather prevents the spraying, then spraying will be done Sept. 16 at the same time.

• Ohio Pest Control Inc. in conjunction with the city of Ironton will conduct mosquito spraying from 7 to 11 p.m. Thursday. If inclement weather prevents the spraying, then spraying will be done Sept. 17 at the same time.

Anyone with respiratory problems should consider closing their windows and shutting off any window unit air conditioners until the fog has dissipated.
