“We’re putting on a motorcycle run for the benefit of the family support group of the 1191st Engineer Company,” Bob Neal, president of Chapter IV, American Legion Riders Post 471 said.
“The main goal is to supply toys for the kids at Christmas time, help veterans, and also to send packages overseas to the ones that are serving over there.”
The run will be held at the National Guard Armory, at 1620 Coles Blvd., in Portsmouth.
“The Legion riders are not making any money off of this support group. In fact we are footing the bill for the food and a few other things,” Neal said. “We’ll have a DJ from Post 471 that is going to be there with the music.” There will also be karaoke, a bake sale, hamburgers, and split the pot.
Sign-ups for the ride will be 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., with the ride scheduled to leave the armory at approximately 1 p.m.
“Anybody that rides a bike can come and join us,” Neal said. “The cost is $10 per rider, and $15 for couples.”
Neal said there is an effort going on to get all local bikers, including those who are members of area motorcycle clubs, to participate in the run.
Neal said the commander of the 1191st is going to let those members, training that weekend, off to participate in the run.
