David D. Kaut, 84, of Rosemount, died Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at the SOMC Hospice Center. Born Aug. 12, 1924, in Portsmouth. He was a son of the late Grover and Leota Salyers Kaut, was a 1943 graduate of Clay High School, and was a retired lieutenant for security at the former Empire-Detroit Steel Corp. Dave was an Army veteran of World War II, having participated in the battles of New Guinea and Luzon, was a member of Portsmouth Baptist Church, and was a former Ohio State Highway patrolman with 15 years of service.

Surviving are his loving and devoted wife, Geneva Horsley Kaut; three sons, Jeff (Karen) Kaut of Sciotoville, Paul (Tess) Kaut of Stoutsville and David L. Kaut of Portsmouth; two daughters, Judy Dobbins of Columbus and Beth Craft of Columbus; a brother, Paul (Sherry) Kaut of Rosemount; a sister, Edna Lintz of Rosemount; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Also preceding him in death were brothers Robert and John Kaut and a sister, Marie Kaut. A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Brant Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Rev. Oscar Perry officiating. Interment will be in Rosemount Cemetery with military honors by the James Dickey Post of the American Legion. Friends may call at Brant’s in Portsmouth from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to SOMC Hospice.
