A Portsmouth woman was shot during the early morning hours Wednesday.

Crystal G. Bennett, 29, of 2610 Scioto Trail, was discovered outside an apartment complex where she resides in the 2600 block of Scioto Trail.

Portsmouth Police Officers were called to the scene around 1:40 a.m. in response to the report of a shooting in that area.

Upon arrival officers discovered Bennett on the ground, and saw that she had sustained a gunshot wound. Portsmouth Police Detectives Ron Davis and Pat Hutchens were at the scene during the investigation.

LIFE Ambulance responded and transported the victim to Southern Ohio Medical Center, and a short time later, she was flown to Cabell Huntington Hospital for further treatment.

Cabell Huntington spokesman Charles Shoemaker told the Portsmouth Daily Times he could not release any information on Bennett’s condition.

The PPD is reporting the incident remains under investigation at this time. Anyone with information can call Detective Ron Davis or Detective Pat Hutchens at (740) 354-1600. Callers can remain anonymous.
