Post 23 scored one run in the fourth inning, one run in the fifth inning and one run in the sixth inning to pull out a 9-8 win over the Del Rice League’s Uncrate.com Tuesday evening at Branch Rickey Park.

Post 23 won the second game 12-2 in six innings.

“I knew coming in it was going to be a good game,” Post 23 coach Jack Branon said. “These guys know how to play the game and Justin (Craft) is a good pitcher.”

Justin Montgomery started on the hill for Post 23. Montgomery went 5.1 innings and gave up eight runs, but only three were earned. Montgomery allowed six hits, gave up two walks and recorded four strikeouts.

Caleb Leach came on in relief of Montgomery and notched the win.

Leach went 1.2 innings, not surrendering a run and closing the door on any chance of seventh inning heroics from Uncrate.com.

“Caleb did a nice job in relief and was able to pick up the win,” Branon said. “He did a nice job of shutting them down.”

Justin Craft took the loss for Uncrate.com going six innings, giving up nine runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out five.

Uncrate.com scored four runs in the first inning with the aide of some defensive miscues by the Blue and White.

Uncharacteristically, Post 23 committed three errors in the first inning, giving Uncrate.com extra outs.

Terry Hall came up with big hit for Uncrate.com. Hall ripped a triple into left field that drove in two runs to stretch the lead to 4-0.

“In that first inning I don’t know what happened,” Branon said. “We played terrible. That is about as bad as you can play. But after that first inning I thought we picked it up, defensively as the game went on.”

Post 23 cut the lead in half in the home half of the first with a pair of runs. Zach Bukiewicz and Adam Wamsley led off the inning with back-to-back singles and later scored.

Uncrate.com pushed the lead back to four with two runs in the second frame. Craft helped his own cause singling in Shawn Milligan. Craft later scored on a wild pitch that skipped away from the catcher.

Post 23 surged back in the third innng. Aaron Hopper doubled with one down to start the rally. Bryan White and Nick Kemper both singled as well plating Hopper. Aaron Oesch also singled which scorred White and cut the lead down to two runs. Kemper scored a wild pitch. Oesch scored when Jared Farmer laid down a squeeze bunt to knot the game at 6.

Post 23 took the lead in the fourth inning when Wamsley scored on an error. Uncrate.com tied the game in the fifth when Nathan Timberlake plated Brent Smith. Post 23 took back the lead in the fifth when Nick Kemper scored on a passed ball. Uncrate.com once again tied the game in the top half of the sixth inning when Milligan singled in Roger Hall.

Post 23 snatched the lead back in the home half of the sixth when Dakota Luster scored on passed ball.

Uncrate.com couldn’t mount another rally in the seventh. After getting the lead-off man on Uncrate.com’s lineup hit three straight fly ball outs to end the game.

Post 23 travels to Waverly Post 142 today.
