Post 23 defeated Hillsboro Post 129 5-4 on Sunday to finish third in the Southwest Ohio Wood Bat Classic.
The game doubled as a South Central Ohio League game, making Post 23 5-3 with four games remaining.
Post 23 won despite leaving 17 runners on base.
John Morrissette got the win for Portsmouth and Dakota Luster got the save.
Adam Wamsley, Bryan White, Nick Kemper, and Aaron Hopper each drove in a run for Post 23. The winning run scored in the fifth inning when Zach Bukiewicz raced home on Hopper's fly ball into short right that was caught by Hillsboro's first baseman.
"We had a lot of opportunities and showed good patience at the plate, but failed to get the big hit that would put the game away," Post 23 coach Jack Branon said. "Our pitchers did a good job of pitching around some tough situations and we scord just enough runs to win."
Post 23's contests with Ashland Post 76 for today have been cancelled and will be replaced by with a doubleheader against the Del Rice League's Uncrate.com team.
