Post 23 defeated South Shore Post 276 6-4 and 5-4 on Monday thanks in part to the home run hitting of Josh Myers. Myers homered in both contests, going 4-for-8 on the day with four RBI.
John Morrisette gave up four runs on five hits in the first Monday contest. Aaron Hopper and Matt Ratcliff each had two hits in the contest.
Justin Montgomery threw a no-hitter through six innings in game No. 2 on Monday before Post 276 scored four runs on him. Bryce Hall got the win in relief. Adam Wamsley added a pair of RBI in the come-from-behind win.
"We played very well and got some key hits," Post 23 coach Jack Branon said of the Monday games.
Tuesday the local club was unable to hold on to a 3-0 lead as Chillicothe Post 757 scored six runs in the fifth inning to take the win.
Jarred Farmer went 2-for-4 and David Shultz was 1-for-2 with a double.
"We didn't hit the ball very well," Branon said. "Even though we had a lead, we never had control of the game."
Post 23 will compete in the Ceredo-Kenova tournament from Thursday through Sunday.
Next Monday the boys in blue travel to Chillicothe for a double header against the Generals, followed by a trip to Ceredo-Kenova Post 87 and another stop at Gallipolis before returning to the confines of Branch Rickey Park on July 1.
