The annual gala is a fundraiser for scholarships at SSU. All net proceeds will be used to supplement scholarship awards for students during the 2009-10 academic year.
During this year’s gala, Morris will act as host and Captain of the “SSU Scholar Ship,” with a faux-casino fundraiser. Some casino pieces will be complimentary with dinner and additional pieces can be purchased in $10 increments. The person with the largest amount of game pieces at the end of the evening will have a named scholarship for the upcoming academic year.
Music for the evening will be provided by Nevada Hart and Shalah Noble, and a cash bar will be available in the casino for those who want “cruise drinks.”
“This year’s gala is particularly special,” Morris said.
“With this year’s proceeds going toward scholarships, supporters are directly helping students with their education.”
The 21st Annual President’s Gala reception will be June 27 at 6:30 p.m., in the Appleton Gallery of the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts at SSU, with cocktails and a faux-casino. Dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m. in the Selby Grand Lobby.
Reservations must be made in advance. Tickets are available for $85 each, or $1,000 for a reserved table of up to eight people. Captain’s dinner attire (semi-formal wear) and a tie are required.
