Ironton CAO plans fundraiser

For more than 40 years, Ironton-Lawrence County Community Action has been committed to improving the lives of Lawrence County citizens by providing quality health care, job training, education, housing assistance and community development programs. Much of the success can be attributed to our partnerships with state and local agencies, government and community business leaders.

In an effort to support their mission, CAO will be hosting the second annual “Southern Summer Night” Dinner Cruise aboard the Cincinnati Belle on July 24 at the Ironton Center Street landing boat dock in Ironton. The event will begin at 7 p.m., and participants can board the boat at 6 p.m. The event also will feature entertainment and a celebration of Community Action in Lawrence County.

The CAO is seeking table sponsors currently; there are different levels of sponsorship. Individual tickets can be purchased for $100 each.

If you wish to be a sponsor for this event or purchase tickets, contact Joan Terry at (740) 532-3534, ext. 202.

Agriculture department launches Web sites

In an effort to further strengthen the lines of communication with Ohioans, the Ohio Department of Agriculture made its debut on two popular social media sites, Twitter and Facebook.

Ohioans can follow concise, up-to-the-minute news and events on the department’s Twitter page at www.twitter.com/OhioDeptofAg. For those interested in a more specialized area, three popular programs within the department also have Twitter pages. The Ohio Proud page is available at www.twitter.com/OhioProud, the Ohio Food Policy Council at www.twitter.com/OhioFood, and the Ohio Grape Industries Coalition at www.twitter.com/OhioWines.

More thorough news and information is available on the department’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com. On the site, visitors will have the opportunity to interact with the posted information and provide feedback and questions. Each of the department’s divisions is also defined on the page, available for quick reference by citizens.

As with Twitter, Ohio Proud, the Ohio Food Policy Council, and the Ohio Grape Industries Coalition also have individual pages on Facebook where they will provide detailed information and open up the lines of communication to the online population.

For more information regarding the department’s social media pages, contact the Ohio Department of Agriculture at (614) 728-6200.
