The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Scioto County man in connection with a shooting that occurred Monday night.

Detectives say they arrested Earl Richard Evans III, 30, of Gephart Road, Wheelersburg, after they investigated the wounding of Melvin McGuire, 49 in the evening hours in the Highland Bend area of Porter Township.

The 911 dispatch had received a call to 189 Marne Ave., where it was reported that three people in a pickup truck came to that residence with one of them brandishing a firearm and firing several shots.

Deputies and detectives were dispatched to the scene along with emergency medical personnel.

That is when they found the victim.

McGuire was critically injured in the shooting, and taken to Southern Ohio Medical Center where he was reported in stable condition Tuesday.

Evans, currently being held in the Scioto County Jail with no bond, has been charged with attempted murder, a felony of the first degree; discharging a firearm in a habitation, a felony of the second degree; and shooting over a highway, a felony of the first degree.

Evans will appear this morning in Portsmouth Municipal Court.

Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said more charges will be presented to the Scioto County Grand Jury at a later date.

Donini is asking anyone with information on the shooting to contact Detective Matt Spencer at (740) 351-1099. Donini said all calls are kept confidential.
