On Wednesday, May 27, 2009, Sr. Anna (Frances Anne) Thieken died at Mohun Health Care Center.

She was born in Wheelersburg, Ohio, on Sept. 4, 1931, to Edward and Magdalene Montavon Thieken. She entered the Novitiate of the Dominican Sisters of Peace (formerly St. Mary of the Springs) in Columbus in 1955 and made her Profession of Vows in 1956. Sister served as principal at St. Thomas in Abiquiu, N.M. (1969-71).

Sr. Anna earned a BS from St. Mary of the Springs College (now Ohio Dominican University) and an MS from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, Pa. She ministered in grade schools in New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Puerto Rico. Since 2000, Sister has served as Assistant Director of Resident Life at Mohun Health Care Center.

Sister was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by brothers, Francis, Lawrence, Michael and Joseph; and by sisters, Mary Boll, Mildred Coriell, Beatrice Hollback, Bernadette Hacker and Monica Acox; as well as many nieces and nephews.

The viewing will be in the St. Mary of the Springs Motherhouse on Friday, May 29, 2009, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. A Vigil Service of Remembrance will take place from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. that day with wake continuing until 6:30 p.m. The funeral liturgy will be on Saturday at 9 a.m. followed by burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In addition, there will be a Memorial Mass on Monday, June 1, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Church in Wheelersburg.
