A three-vehicle crash in Portsmouth Wednesday morning claimed the life of a Portsmouth man.

Killed was Bryan C. Whitley, 32, of Rosemount.

“At approximately 9:29 this morning we received a phone call concerning a traffic accident in the 3000 block of Harrisonville (Avenue),” Portsmouth Police Capt. David Thoroughman said. “Three vehicles were involved. Two of the vehicles were northbound and the one vehicle was southbound. The vehicle southbound went left of center, striking the first two vehicles. The south bound driver (Whitley) died from his injuries.”

Judy Robinette of Portsmouth suffered minor injuries when her car, the second of the two northbound vehicles, was knocked over a guardrail and down a hillside.

The driver of the first vehicle struck, Howard Morgan of West Portsmouth, was not reported to be injured.

Thoroughman said the Portsmouth Police Department is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
