The South Shore Water Works Company has issued a boil water notice because of a main line break in the Saxony Village area. Boil water for a minimum of five minutes. Any questions should be directed to the water works office at (606) 932-3531.

OLBH rewards volunteers

Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital is celebrating National Volunteer Week (April 20 to 24) by hosting an appreciation luncheon for its volunteers Thursday at the Bellefonte Country Club.

OLBH offers many opportunities for community members to volunteer in assisting the hospital in fulfilling its ministry of healing. OLBH volunteers contributed more than 18,000 hours during the last year in a variety of hospital areas including the gift shop, outpatient surgery waiting area, information desk, surgery and ICU waiting areas, couriers and auxiliary fundraising.

“The volunteers are an important part of the day-to-day activities and compliment the services provided by OLBH employees,” Serey said. Volunteers will be awarded pins recognizing their total hours of volunteer time at OLBH during the luncheon.

Smashing the Ceiling Concert is Friday

A one-hour high-energy, live musical performance featuring Magdalen Hsu-Li and her drummer on vocals, guitar, piano, drums, and percussion will be part of “The Redefinition of Identity Lecture” is an interactive “human interest” lecture exploring the search for “cultural identity” through the personal story of the presenter as an Asian American woman growing up in the rural south.

The presenter explores obstacles such as racism, prejudice, stereotyping, homophobia, and bi-phobia. She will include her personal story which includes discussing her disability, her Asian heritage, and being a female in the music industry. She will conclude her presentation by inspiring each of us to find our soul’s purpose.

The performance includes a 10-to-15 minute Q&A session at the end of the lecture.
