He was born Feb. 25, 1963, in Mynot, N.D., to Samuel Eugene and Bonnie Tabor Carver of Black Oak, Ky. He worked for Distel Construction and was a member of Laborers Local 83 of Portsmouth and Dry Run Mission Church. Joe loved playing Bluegrass music, riding 4-wheelers and playing golf.
Joe was preceded in death by grandparents, Ralph and Olive Tabor and Paul and Opal Carver; father-in-law, Fred Spencer; and grandmother-in-law, Jewell Distel.
Along with his parents, Joe is survived by his wife, Cristy Spencer Carver who he married on Nov. 12, 1988; six children, Joey, Carrie and Casie, all at home, and Michael, Samantha and Leighann, all of South Shore; four grandchildren, Teesh, Mariah, Kylee and Ethan; two brothers, Tom and Andrea Carver of Black Oak and Tony and Tracy of Florida; three sisters, Kelly Boyd of South Shore, Cathy Carver of Garrison and Melinda Greene of Chillicothe; and mother-in-law, Carol Spencer of West Portsmouth.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth, with David Distel officiating, and interment in Waring Cemetery in Garrison, Ky. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and one hour before the service on Wednesday.
