After a lengthy search, Shawnee State University has hired Rebekah Kilzer as director of Clark Memorial Library.
“It’s an exciting time to be in libraries,” Kilzer said. “In higher education, things change so much and we need to be ready to make those changes.”
Kilzer is originally from Ohio, and from 2006-08 she worked at The Ohio State University Libraries as an assistant professor and systems librarian. She was involved in systems-level partnerships within the OhioLINK consortium, representing the library on various committees. Her undergraduate degree in psychology is from Otterbein University in Westerville and she earned a master’s (MLSIS) degree in Information Science and Systems at Drexel.
Most recently coming from Drexel University Libraries in Philadelphia, Kilzer was Head Learning Engagement and previously Emerging Technologies Librarian. She was responsible for a staff of seven liaison librarians and technical staff and for developing goals in support of the library’s strategic objectives. Emerging trends and new technologies were integrated into her work. In addition to public services, she also was responsible for management and oversight of programs related to the library website.
“I strive to create a patron-focused and team-oriented environment where we develop a collaborative approach to the issues facing libraries today,” Kilzer said. “I hope to build campus participation and involvement with the library, and look at how we can contribute to the university community.”
Kilzer currently lives with her family in Columbus, and will be moving closer to Portsmouth in the near future.
