A crash on Robinson Avenue in Portsmouth around 8:43 Sunday morning sent two juveniles to the hospital and completely took out a power pole, shutting off all power.

Power was out for several hours from 12th Street to a large portion of the hilltop area of Portsmouth, after a car owned by Stacy D. Adkins and driven by a 17-year-old male failed to negotiate a curve.

According to the Portsmouth Police report, a 2005 Dodge Neon was westbound on U.S. 52 approaching Robinson Avenue, when the driver made the curve off of 12th Street onto Robinson. The vehicle apparently hit the curb on the right side, then hit a utility pole on the left side of the road. It then went back across the road and struck a 1993 Cadillac, owned by Donald W. Brown, that, according to Portsmouth Police, was legally parked on the side of the road.

The 17-year-old male driver and a 17-year-old female passenger were both taken to Southern Ohio Medical Center, where they were treated and later released.

The impact broke the utility pole, owned by American Electric Power, causing the power outage. One result of the outage was the non-functioning traffic lights in that area, all the way to Offnere Street.
