Area track members prep for regionals

The last hurdle to Columbus begins Wednesday for some area track and field participants.
Day 1 of the Division III Regional meet will take place Wednesday at Fairfield Union High School with the second day of action Friday. In Division II, Athens High School will be the host of the regional meet Thursday and Saturday.
Portsmouth, Minford and West will have competitors in both divisions, which is based on a school’s size by gender. The Trojan and Falcon boys as well as the Senator girls will go to The Plains while their counterparts will compete in West Rushville.
Portsmouth will have Johnie Charles (800-meter relay), Alex Dickerson (400 and 800 relay), Terril Lattimore (800 relay), Darion Robinson (400 and 800 relay), Zach Kammler (1600 run), Khalil Lattimore (400 relay), Darray Richardson (200 dash and 400 relay) in Division II. The girls will be represented in Division III by Elaini Jackson (800 relay), Dasia Kennedy (800 relay), Alexis Tucker (800 relay), Tyarra Barnes (100 hurdles, 200 dash and 800 relay), Julia Sturgill (pole vault) and Virginia Sturgill (pole vault).
For Minford, Sean Berry (110 and 300 hurdles, 400 relay and long jump), Zach Farrar (110 and 300 hurdles as well as the 400 and 1600 relay), Grant Piguet (100 dash and 400 relay as well as the long jump), Chris McCallister (800 and 1600 relay), Tate Hall (800 relay), Nathan Compton (800 relay), Caleb Clark (400 and 800 relay), Josh Parsons (1600 relay), Austin Thompson (1600 relay), Jared McCray (discus), Kenton Gullion (high jump) and Kendall Dyer (shot put), will be in Athens County. Making the trip to Fairfield County as the school’s lone representative will be Megan Coriell in the high jump.
West will also have two boys and one girl competing in the regionals. Gabe Durant and Ryan Roe will look to advance in the boys Division III 400 dash and high jump respectively. Jordan Spencer will participate in the girls Division II high jump.
Valley, Wheelersburg, Notre Dame, South Webster and Oak Hill will be in the Division III meet. Waverly, Piketon and Ironton compete in Division II.
The Indians will send Matt Hodge (110 and 300 hurdles), Zach Shope (400 dash), J.J. Hettinger (shot put), McKenzie Coriell (100 and 200 dash, 400 relay and long jump), Kamryn Conaway (300 hurdles, 400 and 1600 relay), Megan Duduit (400 and 1600 relay), Laken Munn (400 and 1600 relay) and Johelen Taylor (1600 relay). The Pirates will have Kasey Maxfield (110 and 300 hurdles), Hussain Shamsa (800 relay), Zach Jenkins (800 relay and long jump), Tyler Claxon (800 relay), Caleb Roof (800 relay), Ross Pyles (discus), Micah McCallister (high jump) and Brooke Smith (400 dash and 800 run).
The Titans, Jeeps and Oaks will only have one athlete for their school. Andrea Marchyn will compete in the high jump for Notre Dame, Levi Cook is in the 800 run for South Webster and Kelsey Hoskins will run in the 400 dash for Oak Hill.
Defending Division II boys shot put champion and future member of the Ohio State Track and Field team Dylan Dyke will look to make it back-to-back years in the event as well as improvement from his sixth-place finish last year in the discus for the Tigers. He will be joined from Waverly by Alex Brown (110 and 300 hurdles as well as the 800 relay), Devon Pixley (400 dash, 800 and 1600 relay), Willie Bevens (800 and 1600 relay), Kyle Browne (800 and 1600 relay), Hudson Diener (1600 relay) and Liza Wall (shot put and discus).
The Redstreaks will have Austin Buchanan (1600 and 3200 relay), Stefan Thacker (3200 relay), Mikkel Kehlert (1600 and 3200 relay), Kane Dixon (800 run, 1600 and 3200 relay), Cameron Waddell (1600 relay), Stephen Royser (pole vault) and Katie Ward (discus). Lastly, the Fighting Tigers from Lawrence County will have Hannah Cronacher in the pole vault.
The 2013 OHSAA State Track and Field meet for Divisions I-III will take place June 7-8 at Ohio State’s Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
