William Lemley, 87
William Marvin Lemley, 87, of Portsmouth, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2013, in Portsmouth at the home of his daughter. He was born Dec. 17, 1925, in Fairview, W.Va., a son of the late Dewey Earle and Mildred Oliver Berdine Lemley.
Bill was retired from Insurance Services of Ohio where he worked as an insurance rating inspector. He received a Bachelor degree from Marietta College in 1948, and was the valedictorian of Smithfield (W.Va.) High School in 1943. A navy veteran of World War II, he was of the Methodist faith.
He was an avid bowler and he also enjoyed woodworking. Bill was well-known for being in many local country music bands.
Surviving Bill is his wife of 65 years, Ramona May Pastorius Lemley, whom he married September 14, 1947 in Wheeling, W.Va.; a son, Michael (Patricia) Lemley of Falls Church, Va.; a daughter, Lisa (Steve) Gibson of Portsmouth; two granddaughters; three great-granddaughters; his son-in-law, Dale Hespel of Portsmouth; best friends, Norm and Charlotte Fraley of Quincy, Ky.; a very special caregiver, Marsha Johnson; and his beloved cat, Puddy Tat.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, William M. Lemley Jr.; a daughter, Becky Marie Hespel; two brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Rev. Perry Prosch officiating and interment in Memorial Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 5 to 7 p.m., and one hour prior to services Saturday.
