State Budget Talks Run Gamut Of Options

Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland’s proposed $54 billion budget is continuing to be scrutinized by the Ohio House of Representatives.

Amid suggestions from different factions that range from rolling back across-the-board income tax cuts that began under former Governor Bob Taft to ways in which placing casino-like slots around the state can be done without circumventing Strickland’s campaign promise not to expand gambling in Ohio, Rep. Todd Book, D-McDermott (89th District) says a lot of work has to be done before the budget is a done-deal.

“The idea of raising taxes is not going to happen,” Book said. “That’s off the table. We’re not raising any taxes unless there’s a complete reversal by a lot of people. I mean that is just not going to happen.”
