The Counseling Center’s 5th Annual Celebrity Chef Dinner and Auction is scheduled for Wednesday, May 29, 2013, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Friends Center in Portsmouth.


Sarah Bachman, Executive Assistant, Community Relations and Development, Compass Community Health and The Counseling Center, said this year’s theme is inspired by “South of the Border” flavors and features delicious, southwest-inspired dinner entrees and a variety of 11 different desserts created by the 2013 Celebrity Chef lineup of local bakers, restaurateurs, reality show winners and community leaders, as well as the Celebrity Chef dessert creations. There will also be a live mariachi band, fun raffles, piñata games, a photo booth, a money and gift card tree, and a silent auction where guests can bid on travel packages, sports tickets, handcrafted items and art pieces, to name a few.


This year’s Celebrity Chef’s come from a wide variety of backgrounds


Charity Whisnant and Debbie Temple-Blevins carry on the family tradition of baking and spreading joy at the popular Union Mills Confectionery in West Portsmouth, Ohio.


Sandy Smith is the Assistant Principal at Bloom-Vernon Elementary School in South Webster, where she has worked for 27 years.


Jennifer Hatcher who will be on a team with her son Tanner, is a fitness and healthy lifestyle advocate and the owner of Fitness 24 Gym in Portsmouth. She recently completed a 100-mile marathon.


Rick Clark is the lead pastor at Christ’s Community Church in Portsmouth. In addition to serving his congregation, he volunteers weekly at the 14th Street Community Center and also gives his time to the recovery community at New Beginnings.


Theresa Ruby is the Clinical Manager of Maternity at Southern Ohio Medical Center. She is also a member of the Maternity Work Group, a partnership between OSU, Scioto County Children Services and The Counseling Center’s Stepping Stone House.


Eugene Collins, who will be assisted in his chef duties by his wife, Jewell, is the Portsmouth High School basketball coach, as well as, a counselor and board member for the Trojan Learning Center.


Mary Rase and Susan O’Neill are co-owners of Market Street Cafe in downtown Portsmouth, where they serve up fresh, flavorful food and showcase a variety of local musicians, authors and Appalachian artists from our area.


Becky Climer is a retired music teacher from South Webster. She continues to make music a part of her life by performing with Doc Roc and the Remedies as their keyboardist, and also is the choir director at Cornerstone United Methodist Church.


Alyssa Logan and Julie Blackburn from 83 Sweets, are an award-winning cupcake-baking mother and daughter team from Lucasville, and national bake-off winners featured on Season 9 of TLC’s TV series, “Cupcake Wars.”

The Celebrity Chef Dinner is an annual event organized by a dedicated committee of community members and The Counseling Center supporters and recovery community to benefit the annual Outreach and Prevention Summer Day Camp program. The Summer Day Camp program is in it’s 22nd year of offering all Scioto county children, ages 5 to 12, a free program of motivational, educational and recreational activities for nine weeks, running June 3 to August 2.

The Counseling Center is a CARF accredited AOD program delivering intensive outpatient and residential rehab services such as Stepping Stone House, Marsh House and St. Lucy’s program for Women, in affiliation with Compass Point Housing corporation.
