Chris Slone

PDT Sports Editor

Hello, my name is Chris Slone. I am the new sports editor at the Daily Times. I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I was born and raised in Flatwoods, Ky. I have lived in this part of the region my entire life and I am married to a beautiful, charming woman named Jessica. We have been married for three years and we have a 19-month-old son named Dawson. Those are the two most important people in my life. I couldn’t imagine life without them.

Like my family, I couldn’t imagine life without sports. I’ve been involved in sports since I was kid. When I was six years old, I remember traveling with my dad to Riverfront Stadium to watch the Reds play. He would buy me a hot dog, a souvenir but most importantly, we would just sit there and he would share his enthusiasm for the game with me. That’s when I began to realize the true purpose of sports.

Over the years, I’ve been involved with sports in different ways. I published a book in 2011 called “Football Breakdown.” The book breaks down football terminology. Prior to becoming a journalist, I spent three years coaching football. I took the knowledge I acquired, and applied it to the book using a simple language and diagrams. Although the book is nowhere near a best seller, the experience I gained is invaluable.

During my last two years of coaching, I attended Morehead State University where I obtained my Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism. After graduation, I spent time with the Ironton Tribune. After leaving the Tribune, I passed up numerous offers to relocate and work at different news organizations across the country. I’ve been waiting for the right opportunity, which I found with the Daily Times.

When I decided to become a journalist, I knew I wanted to be a sports editor. That was my initial goal and even though I’ve reached that goal, I’m still not satisfied. I love this area, which is one reason I’ve spent my whole life here. I also love and am obsessed with sports. My wife says it’s an unhealthy obsession, but an obsession nonetheless.

I am going to work tirelessly to bring the best sports coverage to Portsmouth. I care about each and every reader. Without loyal readers, I wouldn’t have a job, no one at the paper would. With that being said, I value our reader’s feedback. Don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions, concerns, comments or story ideas.
