A Scioto County man was taken by helicopter to St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, W.Va. after a crash Wednesday afternoon.
According to Lt. Karla Taulbee, commander of the Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Harvey L. Adkins, 72, of West Portsmouth was injured when his 1998 Ford Ranger struck a utility truck owned by Pike Natural Gas on U.S. 52 near milepost 17 in West Portsmouth around 4 p.m. The utility truck was driven by Jason McGowan, 39, of Hillsboro.
“The Pike Natural Gas truck was stopped, and stopping traffic because they were working up ahead, and workers were working up above them in a work zone,” Taulbee said. “Then, the pickup truck wasn’t able to stop and plowed into the back of the utility truck.”
According to witnesses, the medical helicopter landed at Earl Thomas Conley Riverside Park where Adkins was placed inside, then he was transported to Huntington.
