PDT Staff Report
Update: As of 11 p.m. Tuesday, American Electric Power’s outage map indicated no outages in Scioto County after 1,269 customers were left in the dark.
Reports of an outage began around 9:30 p.m. and local authorities were inundated with calls from residents left in the dark.
AEP spokesman Dave Wheeler said the source of the outage was from a newer substation near Offnere Street. According to the Wheeler, two circuits failed in the Cornerstone Substation.
Less than 20 minutes later, crews were dispatched to the scene to assess the cause of the outage.
Without an assessment, AEP tentatively predicted power to be restored to customers by 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. However, the majority of customers saw power restored by 11 p.m.
With 36,209 total AEP customers in Scioto County, the outage left 3.5 percent of AEP’s county service total in the dark from around 9:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Calls to KDMC-Ohio and SOMC confirmed the two medical campuses were not impacted by the outage.
