The Board of Directors for the Ironton-Lawrence County Community Action Organization met in regular session Tuesday and authorized their director, D.R. Gossett, to negotiate a resolution to the issues the organization has with the Lawrence-Scioto County Solid Waste Management District.

Gossett gave an update to the CAO board on the situation regarding the Waste District.

“We tried to come up with some ideas to put the Solid Waste contractual dispute behind us. There was no action before the board other than getting their OK to authorize me to try to negotiate some way to put the issue behind us,” Gossett said. “They were willing to do that, with the requirement that it (the agreement) honors the contract and the agreement that we had with Solid Waste.”

Gossett did not want to speculate on what kind of agreement could be reached between the two agencies.

“We want this to happen under the right circumstances that honored the relationship and clarified that we’re trying to work in a way that is positive towards the community’s good will. We’re happy to try and be creative and come up with solutions,” Gossett said.

Gossett believes the Solid Waste District owes CAO for services rendered. He did not know the exact amount but, believed the dollar amount to be in the tens of thousands of dollars.

“We’ve got an amount that’s due to us and we’d like to receive that, if for no other reason to demonstrate we are working out of our contractual relationship,” Gossett said.

He said the CAO has been willing to negotiate with the Solid Waste board as long as there was a value for value exchange.

“We’re not interested in unilaterally giving up assets or anything else. We would like to be flexible and come up with a way out of the woods. At the same time we don’t intend to give something up because someone asks us to,” Gossett said.
