Arnzen, Titans make history in win over Indians

Jen Arnzen became the first player in Notre Dame history to record 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds as the Titans swept the SOC I for the first time in school history with Monday’s 57-36 home win over Western.

Arnzen, who finished with 17 points and 17 rebounds, grabbed the seventh rebound she needed during the second quarter of play. Chrissy Woods paced the Indians with 10.

Both teams now start tourney play. Notre Dame, a No. 1 seed in Division IV, will take on No. 9 Whiteoak in Thursday’s championship game at Northwest. Western, a four seed, will follow and take on No. 5 Manchester.

Division IV Southeast Sectional Semifinal at Northwest

No. 9 Whiteoak 62, No. 8 Green 41

No. 9 Whiteoak proved to be too strong Monday night as No. 8 Green’s season came to end in a 62-41 defeat.

In her final game, Giulia Elli finished with 23 points, six rebounds and four assists. She along with Erin Imes and Abbey Cline will be lost to graduation. The Wildcats play No. 1 Notre Dame Thursday.

Division II Southeast Sectional Semifinal at Zane Trace

No. 8 Hillsboro 55, No. 9 Waverly 31

Despite a 16-13 lead at halftime, No. 9 Waverly’s season came to an end Monday in a 55-31 loss to No. 8 Hillsboro.

Hannah Martin led the Tigers with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Waverly will lose Lauren Streitenberger and Kelsie Mays to graduation.

Host Minford created a three-way tie atop the SOC II with Oak Hill and Valley with a 56-47 win over South Webster.

Jared McCray scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds while Austin McBee and Brandon Rowe each had 11 points for the Falcons. Seth Goddard led the Jeeps with 19 and Levi Cook chipped in with 16.

Minford hosts Adena Tuesday and travels to Oak Hill Friday. South Webster ends its regular season Friday hosting West.
