Dorothy Lillian Thompson, 85

Dorothy Thompson, 85, passed away peacefully Jan. 26, 2013, in her Daughter Kim Pratt and Son-in-Law John Pratt’s home in Foresthill, Calif. She lost her battle with Vascular Dementia of five and a half years. She lived with her family for four of those years.

Dorothy previously lived in Portsmouth, Ohio for 35 years. 25 of those years she was married to her late husband George E. Thompson. Dorothy and George were snowbirds living in Ohio in the summers and Sarasota, Florida in the winters. As they got older Portsmouth, Ohio became their final settling place of residency. While in Portsmouth they attended the Old United Methodist Church. Dorothy’s friends at the Methodist Church became her family. Her favorite friend at that church was Judy Gamble. She loved them all and enjoyed being with them as much as she could. The women would get together and have over night Pajama Parties. Dorothy sang in the choir, singing those good old gospel hymns. And the church was always having delicious potlucks, which she really enjoyed. Dorothy’s other interest’s in life were sewing, knitting, gardening, and going on picnic’s.

She had so many important people in her life. Her good friend Jeannie Steiner and Sister-in-Law Betty Heller would always go to the movies together. Her dear Sister-in-Law Lois Breech and her Husband Tom. Her other important friends were Judy and Jackie who she would always go on walks with and they would also bring her fresh vegetables from their garden. And most importantly Julia and Elmer Cook. Dorothy was always at their house having coffee in the mornings, going for walks with Julia, and having dinner in the evenings with them. Our Mom couldn’t have asked for a better group of friends and church members. She so truly missed them when she had to leave them to come and live with her Daughter because of her Dementia. She can’t wait to see you all again when she meets you all in heaven.

Dorothy carried a strong faith in the Lord, which she passed on to her children. She is survived by her daughter’s Bonnie Beardslee, Kim Clymer-Pratt, and Foster Son Joseph Maholick. She has two Grandson’s Ben Beardslee and Clyff Clymer. And two Great Grandson’s Samuel Beardslee and Luke Beardslee.

Dorothy was the oldest of four children and she is the only girl. She is survived by her Brother Bob Sanderson and Sister-in-Law Cheri. Her Brother Jerry Sanderson and Sister-in-Law Pam. And her late Brother Raymond Sanderson and Sister-in-Law Aurore.

Dorothy is now dancing in Heaven with her mother Magdalina Sanderson. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His Saints” Psalms 116:15. We will be singing her favorite song “I COME TO THE GARDEN” at her funeral. Dorothy’s funeral will be held at the New Auburn Cemetery on Saturday, February 9th at 1 p.m. The memorial of celebrating her in our lives will be held at her Daughter’s home at 6185 HappyPines Dr. in Foresthill, Calif.
