Yeley’s 18 sends Minford to 50-46 win

Brooklyn Yeley lived on the 3-point line Monday as host Minford defeated Oak Hill 50-46 in SOC II girls action.

All of Yeley’s game-high 18 points came from beyond the arc, helping Falcons coach Scott Cayton pick up his first win in three tries over the school that he teaches during the day.

Returning from an injury, Leanna Adkins led the Oaks with 10 points as she was matched by teammate Merrill Melvin. Minford plays in the Dec. 27 New Boston Holiday Tournament against Rock Hill.

Oak Hill travels Thursday to Fairland.

West is within a game of the .500 mark in SOC II after Monday night’s 66-61 home win over South Webster.

Tori Leader led all scorers with 26 points in the win and Taylor Conley chipped in with 11. Freshman Kacie Hall paced the Jeeps with 16, Kaci Messer’s 13 and Haley Stanley were added for the visitor’s cause.

The Senators travel to SVC-leading Adena Saturday. South Webster welcomes Portsmouth for a Thursday night affair.

Visiting Valley held Waverly to five first-half points and went on to win 50-34 in Monday’s SOC II game.

Lexie Doddridge led all scorers with 18 points and five assists, McKenzie Coriell added 11 points and six assists. Haley Shreck led the Tigers with nine points.

Valley is off until a Jan. 3 home date with Notre Dame. Waverly travels Saturday to Eastern to face Piketon in the First Round of the 2012 Pike County Holiday Classic.

Two days after suffering their first loss of the season, the Wheelersburg Pirates ended the first round of SOC II play with a 49-31 win, keeping them undefeated in conference play.

Sydney Holden led Wheelersburg with 13 points, Fay Proehl add 12 points and 11 rebounds and Laiken Salyers added 11. K’ Lee McGlurg had nine to lead the Mohawks.

The Pirates are next on the road Dec. 29 at Miami Trace. Northwest welcomes Rock Hill Thursday for its final game before Christmas.

Tiffany Craft’s game-high 16 points helped visiting East build a two-game winning streak as the Tartans defeated SOC I rival Green 36-34.

Madison Applegate led the Bobcats with 13 points and 11 rebounds and Giulia Elli added a dozen. East won’t return to action until after Christmas break as Ironton St. Joseph comes into Sciotoville for a Dec. 27 encounter.

However, Green ventures to Kentucky Thursday to face Rose Hill Christian in Ashland.

Visiting Notre Dame knocked off Symmes Valley 41-35 in Monday’s SOC I game thanks to a 17-point, 21-rebound performance from Jen Arnzen and 14 points from Brooke Pierron.
