Robert Ware will be sworn in as Portsmouth Police Chief Friday at 1 p.m. in the banquet room at the Holiday Inn, across from the Portsmouth Municipal Building on Second Street.
“My children will be there,” Ware said. “I expect my dad and my uncle and my local family all to be there.”
Ware said the ceremony will be open to the public and light refreshments will be served.
Ware was told Monday that he had scored the highest on the Portsmouth Police Chief exam, and Portsmouth Mayor David Malone said he would confer with Ware as to when the swearing in ceremony would be held.
Ware had been serving as interim chief since former Chief Charles Horner announced his retirement in February.
Ware told the Daily Times there is a lot of uncertainty when it comes to implementing long-term change while you do not know who the boss is going to be. That uncertainly ended when he received the official word from the Scioto County Civil Service Commission.
