A bicyclist, struck by a hit-and-run motorist, is in critical condition at Cabell Huntington Hospital. The Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol has identified the victim as Sean Hamilton, 22, whose last known address was Flatwoods, Ky.

OSHP Portsmouth Post Commander Lt. Karla Taulbee said the crash occurred at around 6 p.m. Monday night, near Wheelersburg. A bicyclist (Hamilton) was riding southbound on Ohio 522, just north of Mill road, when he was struck by a vehicle that was also southbound. The bicyclist was forced off the road and ejected from the bicycle. The other vehicle continued on. The bicyclist was airlifted from the scene to Cabell Huntington Hospital.

Taulbee said the hit-and-run vehicle is possibly a pickup truck. The vehicle will have damage to the right headlight, right fender, and right mirror. She said if anyone has information about the crash, they are encouraged to contact the Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol at 740-354-2888.

“We had three hit-skips this year,” Taulbee said. “One died, another was hurt badly, and this one is critical.”

I use to ride a bicycle around town, now I don't and this is why. Too many people on cell phones not paying attention to the road.
