Four members of the Shawnee State volleyball team have been named NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Janine Grey, Holly Tobias, Hannah Gephart and Kirsti Yates were all honored with the academic award. This award comes on top of all four being named Academic All-MSC. To be eligible, a student-athlete must be in their junior year and have maintained a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5.
Each of these four student-athletes are earning the award for the first time in their careers. Grey and Tobias are the two seniors to earn the award. Grey is majoring in Photography, while Tobias is majoring in exercise science. Two juniors, Gephart and Yates, also earned the award. Gephart is an exercise science major, while Yates is majoring in biology.
Ward, Welch Named NAIA Scholar-Athletes
Juniors Bethany Ward and Teresa Welch have been named NAIA Scholar-Athletes. This academic honor is in addition to the Academic All-MSC selection that each earned earlier in the fall. To be eligible for this award, student-athletes must be in junior academic standing and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50.
Both members of the junior class, this was the first season that Ward was eligible for the honor. She is majoring in accounting. Welch earns the award for the second time in her career. She is an education major.
Brandon Prince Named NAIA Scholar-Athlete
Senior Brandon Prince has been named an NAIA Scholar-Athlete for the men’s soccer team. This academic honor is in addition to his Academic All-MSC selection that he earned earlier in the fall. To be eligible for this award, student-athletes must be in junior academic standing and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50.
Prince has now earned NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors in each of the last two seasons. He also ends his career as a three-time Academic All-MSC selection.
Liston, Stewart Named NAIA Scholar-Athletes
Brad Liston and Joe Stewart have been named NAIA Scholar-Athletes, adding to each of their postseason accolades. Both Liston and Stewart were first-team All-MSC runners that ran at the NAIA Championships this weekend. To qualify, student-athletes must be at least in junior academic standing and maintain a 3.5 GPA.
Both Liston and Stewart were also named to the All-MSC Academic Team during the Mid-South Championship Banquet. Both juniors, Liston is majoring in Natural Sciences, while Stewart is majoring in Accounting.
