NEW BOSTON — Following a tip received by their department Thursday, New Boston police officers located a suspect wanted for using a stolen credit card. The suspect — identified as Wayne Claytor, age 52 — was found in Portsmouth and was arrested by New Boston Police.
According to New Boston police, Claytor was wanted for using a stolen credit card at Kmart in New Boston, Kroger, Family Dollar, and Speedway in Portsmouth, and Speedway in South Shore, Ky. The total purchases were about $730. Police asked the public for help identifying Claytor, using security camera footage taken at Kroger.
A tip led police to South Shore, where they were assisted by the South Shore Police Department. There they discovered that Claytor had moved several months ago to a residence on Fifth Street, in Portsmouth. New Boston officers responded to that address and located Claytor there.
He was taken to the New Boston Police Department for questioning, where he confessed to using the stolen credit card. Claytor was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property and telecommunication fraud and he was taken to the Scioto County Jail, awaiting an appearance in the Portsmouth Municipal Court
Because the charges are felony crimes, New Boston police a felony case packet will be presented to the Scioto County Prosecutor’s Office for grand jury proceedings where Claytor could be facing additional criminal charges for using the stolen credit card in Portsmouth. New Boston Police also said that South Shore Police Chief Bill Sword will also obtain an arrest warrant for Claytor for using the stolen credit card at the Speedway in South Shore.
